Stories in the shadows: Ben Nevis guided walk with a difference
For many people it is all about standing on the top of the UK’s tallest mountain. However, if you want to get a true feel for its character then there is no better place to be than beneath the imposing north face. This guided walk takes a circular route to experience, from below, the dramatic cliffs found on this side of Ben Nevis.

Time: Approx 6 hours
Starting Point: North Face Carpark
Terrain: Forest, moorland and mountain. Mostly good tracks and paths with a short section across rough hillside.
Requirements: A good level of general fitness and comfortable walking on rough ground. Sturdy walking boots and weather appropriate clothing. Suitable for adults and older children.
Ben Nevis Guided Walk: the journey
The cliffs of the North face reach over 500m tall and in their shadows is an arctic-like habitat. As a result this landscape is home to many rare plant species and fantastic geology. It is also the backdrop to a multitude of mountaineering adventures.
As we walk we will discover the vast range of stories this mountain has to tell. Since its dramatic formation around 450 000 years ago the landscape has been shaped by many forces. Water, weather, plants, animals and people have all played their part, creating a unique place for us to explore.
Expect to gain an understanding of the geology of the area, its place in human history and all of the elements that combine to make Ben Nevis world renowned.
There will be plenty of time to stop and enjoy the places we visit along the route. If you are feeling brave then bring your swimsuit! There are opportunities for a wild dip along the way.
