Anna’s professional background

Since childhood Anna has been fascinated by the natural world, seeking out adventures and always curious to find out why landscapes look the way they do. This inspired her to focus her studies to deepen her understanding of the natural world and enable her to share this with others.

She worked in the informal education sector for many years, latterly as the Learning Manager at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh. The only science centre in the UK dedicated to Earth and Environmental Sciences. Since then, moving to the Highlands has allowed her to combine her professional career with a lifelong love of exploring wild places and having great adventures.

Shona Macpherson

Shona works in private practice as a counsellor/ psychotherapist. She’s passionate about helping people disconnect from their busy lives and be present in nature.

Shona is also experienced in big adventures in wild places. She’s probably spent more nights living out of a tent than all of us put together. Recently completing solo both the Pacific Crest Trail and the Te Araroa.

In 2020 she set herself the challenge of completing all 282 Munros, mountains in Scotland over 3000ft/914m. Most people take a lifetime to do this but Shona did it in 282 days, much of it through the winter months.

Through all these adventures she shares her experiences with beautiful and insightful words and pictures. Never losing sight of the fact that it’s not about the destination but the way in which we journey that really matters.

Shona guides on our Highland Wilderness Journeys and Wild Mountain Retreats.
